Azure Data Services
The capabilities available in Azure BI to support Big Data and Analytics initiatives in your business continue to grow and evolve, offering what often seems a daunting choice of technologies. Don’t worry, Datashapa are here to help you make the right decisions about what your business needs. If you get the fundamentals of managing your data in place, you can then start to introduce different analytical tools based on your business needs.
The following are all Big Data services available on Azure. We’re not going to write about all of them here, but we’d be happy to discuss them with you in more detail if you want to get in touch. We have provided some additional info for the services we get asked about more frequently.
- Azure IoT
- Azure Data Catalog
- Azure Data Factory
- Azure Data Lake
- Azure SQL Data Warehouse
- Azure Stream Analytics
- Azure Machine Learning
- Azure HDInsight
Azure Machine Learning
It seems to be fashionable to refer to yourself as Data Scientists these days instead of an Analyst or BI User. But most of us are not data scientists, although the amount of data that’s now available to us does mean there are many more applications for Machine Learning techniques.
Azure Machine Learning is a fully managed cloud service that enables you to easily build, deploy and share predictive analytics solutions, and has been designed to make this type of capability more accessible. The Azure Market Place has many published models with detailed explanations on how and when to use them, so whilst you may not be designing and building your own algorithms, you can benefit from something that’s already out there. At Datashapa, we have the technical competence to setup and manage Azure Machine Learning Services and can help you consume what’s in the Azure Market Place. If you have a more specialised requirement, let us connect you with one of our partners who really are Data Scientists. They have PhD’s on this stuff.
We decided to talk about Azure HDInsight as it demonstrates that Hadoop is accessible to the Microsoft and Azure community. HDInsight is the only fully managed cloud Hadoop offering that provides optimised open-source analytic clusters for Spark, Hive, MapReduce, HBase, Storm, Kafka and R-Server, backed by a 99.9% SLA. Each of these big data technologies and ISV applications are easily deployable as managed clusters with enterprise-level security and monitoring.
Familiar business intelligence (BI) tools – such as Excel, PowerPivot, SQL Server Analysis Services, and SQL Server Reporting Services – retrieve, analyse, and report data integrated with HDInsight by using either the Power Query add-in or the Microsoft Hive ODBC Driver.
